The arcade beneath Bethesda Terrace is the passage that connects the Mall to the fountain below. Its ceiling carries roughly 15,000 encaustic Minton tiles — the only installation of its kind in the world — and the sound inside is why buskers play here most afternoons.
Gossip Girl used the terrace and the steps above it repeatedly for park meetings between the characters, and the arcade itself appears in several transitions. Nothing here has been altered since filming apart from the 2007 restoration of the ceiling.
Central Park is free to enter and the arcade is open all day. It is one of the Central Park stops on our tours, a few minutes' ride from the Met steps.
